League Meetings Set Path to 2027 in Motion

The 2027 American Arena League season is already set and ready to go. Our 2026 League meeting set in motion quite a few things:

Finalized Expansion:

As many have seen, the Virginia Haulers have been accepted into the league. While many details about the team aren't public, American Arena League leadership and team owners couldn't be more excited. Head Coach and GM Joshua Resignalo comes with years of experience. His experience in building franchises, winning, and scouting talent will not only lead them to success but also strengthen the league as a whole. They will play at Hitachi Energy Arena in Wytheville, Virginia, a 3500-seat arena that perfectly fits what the team is looking for. As we have said before, welcome to the American Arena League Virginia!

New Divisions & Playoff structure:

With expansion comes more organizing! In this case, it made sense to us and our member organizations to structure ourselves in a fashion that provided meaningful games until the final week. In a non-division setup, the losing teams have no real path to a comeback in the current setup? Well, even a team in a 1-4 start has a reasonable path to fight for the lowest seed.

With the divisions also comes a playoff structure; the structure is as follows:

-6 teams per Division
-Top 4 from each make the playoffs
-1 vs 4 & 2 vs 3
- Division Champions Face Off for the Championship

With these teams in each Division:

This also leads us in a direction that gives regional rivalries:

-The Wild hogs, Steam, and Desperados all play, and get a chance to have a bit of a “Cup” between the three, similar to how the Commander-in-Chief Trophy is won each year.
-Columbus, Rome, and Montgomery are all less than three hours from one another, with Columbus and Montgomery separated by only 80 miles, giving way to what could become a fierce series between three strong Deep South franchises.
-The most obvious of all is the battles that will take place between the Blues and the Wolfpack considering the proximity to one another.

A Clear Vision for the Future:

In any league, no matter the league, there is always room for growth. We at the American Arena League have the ability to see our faults and focus on what it takes to fix them. There is a heavy focus for 2027 on uniformity in rules, uniforms, and overall structure of each team. We see the landscape of the sport and strive to be a league that you don't guess will be well presented and organized, but you know will be! In the following days and weeks, schedules and other news will be released. Be sure to follow the league on all of its social media platforms to keep up to date on all the happenings in and around the AAL.
