What made his performance even more dynamic was his ability to extend plays on the ground. Adding 7 carries for 35 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, Rodriguez proved to be a dual-threat quarterback who can hurt defenses both in the air and on the ground. His leadership and versatility were key in powering the Bearcats’ offense and securing a dominant Week 1 showing.

On the defensive side, DeKoven Ware of the Columbus Lions delivered a statement performance that disrupted the opposition from start to finish. Ware recorded 10 total tackles, including 8 solo stops and 2 assists, demonstrating his consistency and ability to read the game.

He took it a step further with an impressive 5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, constantly applying pressure and shutting down offensive momentum. To cap it off, Ware forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown—highlighting not just his defensive dominance but his ability to turn defense into points.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Jacob Smith (Columbus Lions)

Special teams often swing the momentum of a game, and Jacob Smith made sure his impact was felt. With 3 returns totaling 114 yards and an average of 38 yards per return, Smith consistently gave his team strong field position.

His standout moment came with a return touchdown, electrifying the crowd and adding a crucial spark for the Columbus Lions. Performances like this reinforce just how critical special teams can be in the outcome of a game.
