Rome Red Cats Sign High Level Talent

Rome, Ga- In a show of experience and top-of-the-line effort, Coach Moreland and the Red Cats staff sign big names in the arena football world.

​As many have already seen, the biggest name in developmental arena football turned pro head coach has already put a dent in the talent pool, all before we see the end of September. Names like Tommie Neely, Otis Odom, and even a big-name rookie in Quay Wiggles.

​If you dive deep into just those athletes (there are plenty more and more coming), you already have a core that any team in the American Arena League could lean on and build around. No team has ever been built in a day, but it seems Rome is taking that as a challenge.

​Let's meet a couple of these athletes:

​(Rookie) Quay Wiggles, Defensive Lineman

​Though he has never taken to a fifty-yard field up to this point, Wiggles may just be a force to be reckoned with come 2027. The 6’3” Defensive Tackle (#0 above) absolutely dominated in his Junior and senior seasons at UT-Chattanooga. In 25 games, he managed 87 tackles, 13 TFLs, 2 forced fumbles, and a blocked punt. If he can learn the rule set of the arena game, expect him to torture OL and quarterbacks next season.

​Tommie Neely, Quarterback

​Neely is an arena football veteran who has spent time with the Peach State Cats and Columbus Lions. He is by all accounts a poised, pressure-makes-diamonds style QB that doesn't get rattled when down. Moreland and staff see him as a game-changer who could be the difference between raising a trophy and sitting at home on championship weekend.

​Otis Odom, Running Back/Wide Receiver

Recently, Odom has spent time with the Omaha Beef, Washington Wolfpack, and Salina Liberty. He is a versatile player who can be utilized as a running back, wide receiver, or kick returner. He will give any DB fits in the short to intermediate passing game, and torches anyone unlucky enough to meet him downfield; he will give the Red Cats a distinct advantage.

These are just a few of the signings, and plenty more are to come, but it becomes apparent with just these few that the Red Cats plan on coming in red-hot in 2027! Check back for more info as the offseason continues!
